Steve Morrall
is
a life-long musician who has played piano from the age of 8 and a cacophony of
other instruments including guitar, double bass and bandoneon. He
first started to perform as an actor and musician in his teens.
He trained as a fine artist and worked as a commercial artist/graphic
designer for 25 years before selling his business to concentrate on dance
and music. Along the way he has also taught horse-riding and IT and
uses teaching skills he learnt from these eclectic roles.
Steve teaches tango as more than just a way of dancing. It is an
affirmation of mind, body and spirit to yourself and to your dance
partner. It is the pleasure of intimate contact with another person. It
is an emotional journey where dancers discover ways to be creative, to
communicate without words, to respond and adapt in a constantly
changing environment.
For Steve, the real joy of dancing, playing and teaching tango is
centred around people. In contradiction to current social trends of
exclusion and indifference, tango is based on social interaction that
is based on the body and is accessible to anyone. It is a conundrum
that reflects life - sometimes it is good, sometimes it is indifferent,
sometimes it is bad.
He has taught Argentine Tango since 2000, leading classes and workshops
in the UK and Europe. He and his wife (and dance partner) Debbie run
the teaching and events company www.TangoUK.co.uk which offer workshops
for all levels of tango dancers, including:
Tango Toolkit for beginners
Tango Tangk for intermediates, and
Tango Bodyshop for all levels
He has also written a number of articles on tango which can be found online.
